One downside to Chinatown Wars being so uncompromising in its attempt to replicate the GTA experience is that, because the DS has fewer buttons than other systems, you're occasionally required to use the touch screen at inopportune times. There's even an option to superimpose GPS directions directly onto the street, which works a lot better than having to look down at the map on the bottom screen. There are some great options to make the game even more user-friendly as well, such as autotargeting for drive-by shootings and a subtle steering assist that automatically straightens up your vehicle so that it's parallel with the road that you're on. The uncomplicated on-foot and vehicle controls are largely the same (sprint becomes accelerate, shoot is still shoot), so even those of you with no prior GTA experience should have no trouble picking them up quickly. Basic controls for movement and car-jacking are mapped to the same button positions that they are on other platforms. Many of these missions involve the usual mix of driving fast, killing people, and not getting caught by the cops, but there are plenty of varied and memorable missions as well, a number of which put the touch screen to great use.įor the most part, Chinatown Wars plays just like any other GTA game, which is an achievement in itself. As Huang, you advance the story-which should take you about nine hours to play through-by undertaking missions for a number of different characters within the Triad organization, as well as for one or two people outside of it. Huang flies to Liberty from Hong Kong to avenge his father, and predictably becomes embroiled in the war between those hoping to step into the dead man's shoes. Set in the same instantly recognizable Liberty City as GTAIV (minus one island), Chinatown Wars tells the story of a power struggle within the Triad gangs from the perspective of Huang Lee, whose crime-boss father has recently been murdered. I am a very unpleasant person when things are not right and words are usually my choice of instrument to express how I feel. It definitely made me happier, a state of happy that I haven’t felt for a long time.ħ. When you have kept something bottled up for so long, putting it out there felt beyond amazing, as if a huge school bag full of books being lifted from my shoulders. My previous post was a piece that truly came from the heart. Talk to someone about your worries, what’s burdening you So, when I say I don’t feel good, trust me, I really don’t.Ħ. It was only last year when mummy told me that a doctor once told them that when I have fevers, my body will naturally regulate the temperature back to normal, unless it’s very high, showing no increase in temperature when checked with a thermometer. However, what’s annoying is that there is really no noticeable signs when I’m about to fall sick, especially fevers, so when I tell people to check my temperature, they’ll just be like “No Alya, you’re fine” even when I know I’m not. I am not one to fall sick easily and when I do, it doesn’t take long for me to recover. However, sometimes, they have to be sacrificed for the sake of others, which used to really piss me off, but now, I’m totally fine with it. I wake up at half past 6, perform my morning prayers, clean my room, get changed for my morning run or sometimes HIIT, shower, make my oatmeal and have it whilst watching Laura in the Kitchen or ClevverTv’s Cheat Day on Sundays. I am definitely a creature of routines and my favourite has got to be my morning routine on weekends and school breaks. It’s not always you get to stick to a routine So, I started to do the Q&A method which I genuinely really love and it worked so well, better yet, I even got to cut my studying time by half!Ĥ. However, I had to start juggling 9 subjects last year and I found out that the hard core memorizing technic started to not work and it was only causing more stress. I used to be a fan of memorizing facts as I thought it was the most effective studying method. That you can never ace exams without at least 6 hours of studying. Honestly, I used to hate the saying ‘Study smart, not hard’ so much, constantly thinking Turns out, the change I decided to make was probably one of the best decisions I've ever made and to my surprise (and my parents) I find myself looking forward to school, not everyday of course but most of the times. At first, I was on the fence of being scared and excited, scared because I was very much comfortable with the school I was in and excited because ever since moving to Jeddah, I've always craved change and I really do love meeting new people. Ever since I started secondary school, mummy has always wanted me to attend abang's highly praised school and after years of her persuading me and being told 'No Ma'am, it's full' by the education office, I finally got a spot last year. In conjunction with what was said in the above point, I did start attending a different school in 2016. Take a leap of faith, sometimes change is good Trust her gut as much as you trust yours and no worries will ever come your way.Ģ. Whatever she says is good, is good and when she tells you to not do something, just don't because no doubt something bad will happen. I have a really close relationship with my mom which is something that I'm beyond grateful for and she basically helps me with everything from choosing a handbag to deciding whether to switch schools or not. Therefore, here are a few of the things I've learned in 2016.Īnd no, this is not just taking inspiration from Disney's Tangled. So, in order to not bore everyone with a super lengthy post, I'll break it down for you (because I too hate those super long articles online when you search up the benefits of green tea or etc, with no highlighted posts and number sequence). Let me start by saying, 2016 is by far the best year I've ever had! If I were to describe all the highlights of the year, I could probably submit it as a short story. So, I thought I would make use of this 6 hour long road trip, from Barcelona to Madrid, to draft my highly anticipated post. However, for this year, I've been counting down to the 1st of January just to blog a whole summary of 2016. I've had this blog for 3 years now and all my new year's posts are always way too late (like, 2 weeks late). Because even if they can be done in fifteen minutes before I can jump on to the next racing division, I know that I will have to redo everything again in about half an hour when it's time to unlock the next stage. I curse and grind my teeth during those miserable, wretched driving licence tests. This makes Gran Turismo 6, just like its predecessor, feel like two different games with two different teams working on different parts that are ultimately just clamped together with no real thought put into it.Īnd I curse. It's weird considering that the first race - before a drivers licence has even entered the picture - is packed with tutorial-texts and tips.Īfter nine races, loads of mandatory tips on braking points and gears and how to use the car's acceleration force, I'm going into the driver's licence phase, which takes a long time to complete - despite being significantly less severe than in previous games. I race nine times before Polyphony forces me to step into a driving school car and ask me to show that I've understood where the brake pedal is located. It isn't a case of driving one short race before I'm hauled into driving school to learn the basics. The strange thing is how these have been distributed in the game.įor even if the driver's licence system was a good idea in the series' beginning, it is also counterproductive and an ill-advised design choice. Each licence contains six separate tests. To gain access to the various racing classes I need to obtain a license for each of the six divisions. Licence tests have also been incorporated into a mandatory trial in this sixth installation, which makes progression through the game's career mode one of the most tired and least entertaining gaming experiences of the whole year for me. It hardly comes as a shock, rather the opposite, but I had hoped that Polyphony would have bettered it this time round. As far as racing goes, it's as bad as it gets. My orange Honda and I drive around at 88 km/h, shuffling ourselves through wide asphalt curves like a concrete refrigerator on wheels and I am forced to spend all the money that I earn in competitions to tune up what looks, and acts, like a very slow mini-van. I understand that Kazunori Yamauchi does not want to compromise on the basic recipe, but after the first five hours of GT6, I find it difficult to agree with the conservative approach. I understand the difficulty in trying to make drastic changes in the concept that made Gran Turismo a genre-changer fifteen years ago. The next four hours are, as usual, an incredibly slow and boring process where I torture myself through extremely slow contests to win money in order to tune my Honda Jazz. It has a 1.1-liter engine and sports 87 horsepowers. A positive improvement that, just like in the games mentioned, provides a picture of what the racing will be like later in the game.Īlthough these initial minutes are different compared to the last five games, it takes only 120 seconds before I have to choose between a Volkswagen Polo, Ford Fiesta, Honda Jazz and Suzuki Swift. Just as in Need for Speed, Grid or Forza Motorsport, Gran Turismo 6 begins with a race where I'm thrown into a tuned race car and asked to "show what I can do" right after the intro movie. It hurts to write the following, but it has to be done Gran Turismo 6 is a mediocre racing game and one of the year's biggest disappointments. And when the game provides neither sufficient entertainment nor a sufficiently realistic driving feel, well, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to understand that the game series lost all of its original appeal. Because that's what we've been fed for fifteen years.īut somewhere along the way, amidst all those cleverly-designed marketing tricks and all those initiated talks on how a real racing car behaves - the game has been forgotten. By now everyone knows already that Sony's popular, genre-defining racing series is "The real driving simulator". Game images on the TV and GamePad screen during Local Battles will be displayed at 30 frames per second. This configuration allows each player to see the action from their own perspective, with one person watching the TV screen and the other watching the action on the Wii U GamePad. In this mode, one player will use the Wii U GamePad and the other player will use a Pokken Tournament-compatible controller (see list below). Local Battles - two players compete using one Wii U console. Single Battles - you'll play against the CPU-you can choose from three difficulty levels, so everyone from beginners to advanced players can enjoy the challenge. Pokkén Tournament launches on Wii U on March 18th, 2016.Pokken Tournament can be played in a variety of modes: Pokkén likely won't unseat Street Fighter as the most popular fighting game on the market, but it promises to offer plenty of fun for poke-fanatics across the world. The game also presents fans with the most impressive character models the franchise has seen thus far, utilizing the power of the Wii U to produce a smoothly animated, detailed look at the characters. The game presents a new way to experience the world of Pokémon, allowing battles to unfold in real time rather than turn by turn. That's not to say that Pokkén won't find success on consoles. Destructoidreported that Japanese arcade Amusement Fantasista, located in Kurashiki, Okyama Prefecture, planned to remove their Pokkén cabinets, stating the game wasn't popular or profitable. While excitement for the console version has remained high, there has been some evidence that the arcade cabinet was not especially successful. Originally released as an arcade cabinet, Nintendo announced the game would be coming to consoles worldwide at the 2015 Pokémon World Tournament. The gameplay will be similar to that found in the Tekken series, but Nintendo has stated the game will be friendly to newcomers and veterans alike. The game will feature sixteen playable characters at launch, including fan favorites such as Charizard, Lucario, and Pikachu, with more expected to be added after the game's release. Pokkén Tournament was developed with Bandai Namco, the developers of the Tekkenfranchise. The game is priced higher than the typical Nintendo release, but the first run of physical copies will include a Shadow Mewtwo Amiibo card, unlocking the character for use in the game. The game will launch exclusively on the Wii U on March 18th, 2016, with a recommended retail price of $74.99. Nintendo has revealed the release date for Pokkén Tournament, their upcoming Pokémon fighting game. 2016 is the year of Pokémon, and the celebration is just getting started. On February 27th, 2016, Nintendo will be re-releasing both Pokémon Red and Blue as well as the original set of cards from the trading card game. Proving the enduring popularity of the animated series, Pokémon has been airing consistently since 1997, having aired over 900 episodes to date.Ģ016 marks the twentieth anniversary of Pokémon and Nintendo is planning to celebrate the occasion. The series found success quickly in all markets and branched into other media, including a trading card game, its own manga, and an animated series that led to a number of films. The series came west two years later, renamed Pokémon Red and Blue. Launching in 1996 in Japan, the franchise started with two Game Boy games - Pocket Monsters Red and Green. For nearly twenty years, Pokémon has been one of Nintendo's most iconic game franchises. Gunplay is easy, and perhaps it's overly so. This ignores the points where you can vault over a waist-high object, but only when the game says you can, and there is no rhyme or reason to when you can and can't. Should you find a ladder to climb, you can go upward, but only then. This may sound like a minor thing, but the game is built around creating completely implausible obstacles that a 4-year-old could get past, but Dominic can't. Looking at the controls, Dominic apparently suffered a tragic accident that filled his shoes with cement because he's incapable of jumping. The Godfather II comes close to doing things right, but it ends up doing almost everything wrong. Government, as the FBI begins to build a case against the Corleones. Naturally, it's up to Dominic to take back New York for the Corleones, a mission that will also take him to Florida and Cuba as he contends with foes ranging from powerful crime lords like Hyman Roth to the U.S. Unfortunately for the Corleones, Aldo's death has thrown New York into chaos, with multiple families and gangs attempting to take over. When the revolution hits, Michael is forced to flee Cuba, and along the way, Aldo is gunned down by a sniper, which leaves Dominic in charge of Trapani's hometown of New York City. In The Godfather II, you play as Aldo's underboss, Dominic. Trapani was the main character in the previous The Godfather video game. Set during the same time as the film, The Godfather II opens up with Michael Corleone and his most trusted underling, Aldo Trapani, in Cuba on the night of the revolution. This might be admissible if it was a good game, but it doesn't even manage that. Unfortunately, it turns a classic movie into a ham-handed and tedious romp through locations that vaguely resemble situations in the movie. The Godfather II, therefore, has a lot to live up to, and it doesn't come close. Even the original The Godfather is a superior choice for a video game, since it provides a hectic and dramatic backstory. The movie isn't exactly ideal for the video game medium: The action is light, the talking is heavy, and it really isn't the first movie license that comes to mind for a video game. It's subtle, intelligent and well-executed in almost every regard, filled with tremendous actors, an ageless score, and scenes that remain fixed in your mind for years. "The Godfather: Part II" is a classic film. |
